Samuel Daniels, the man accused of killing his wife at their Goedverwagting, East Coast Demerara home, was on Thursday charged with her murder.
Daniels appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with murdering Shalini Paul.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charge and was remanded to prison.
He is to make his next court appearance on July 26, 2021.
Paul, also known as Saskia Perreira, was killed sometime between 8 pm on Sunday and 8.20 am Monday. She was found with suspected stab wounds and multiple bruises about her body.
The police, in a statement, revealed that Paul’s body was discovered lying motionless, following a report of a fight between her and her 59-year-old husband.
At the scene of the crime, police retrieved a knife with suspected blood stains. The police added that the suspect appeared to have sustained injuries, which he claimed were inflicted by the woman.
Meanwhile, a post-mortem examination conducted on the remains of Paul revealed the cause of her death to be blunt trauma to the head.
