Kimbia James Prescod, the Stabroek Market vendor accused of the fatal stabbing of fellow vendor Robert Bizzeth after a clash over a vending spot, was charged with murder yesterday.
Prescod, 46, called ‘Bow Life,’ of Lot 9 Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the conclusion of his arraignment in a city court.
Prescod was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge, which states that on June 22, at Stabroek Market, Georgetown, he murdered Bizzeth, 35.
The matter was adjourned until July 29.
According to the police, Bizzeth, commonly known as ‘Channa Man,’ had a scuffle with Prescod over the former’s cart, which was moved from its usual place. It is alleged that Prescod stabbed Bizzeth in his neck and other body parts.
The police had previously stated that Bizzeth initiated the altercation after he drew a ‘jooker’ (similar to an icepick) and threatened Prescod after his (Bizzeth’s) cart was moved. As a result, Prescod reportedly retaliated by pushing the victim and drawing a knife, the police said.
The argument continued and Bizzeth then proceeded to pursue Prescod while armed with an axe.
Prescod reportedly fell to the ground and Bizzeth aborted his pursuit. However, as Bizzeth was walking away, Prescod allegedly attacked him and stabbed him several times.
A wounded Bizzeth then ran to the nearby mobile police outpost, where he collapsed. He was then immediately rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he died while receiving treatment.
