The Ministry of Labour yesterday said that it is probing the death of a truck driver last week at the John Fernandes Limited wharf.
The Ministry in a statement noted that the dead man, 36-year-old Sheldon Wilson, a truck driver for the Guyana Stockfeeds Inc. was proceeding to the assembly point of the wharf to offload feed from the truck.
“He drove the vehicle off the wharf partially into the river and reports from eyewitnesses indicated that Wilson appeared to be convulsing when he drove the truck off the wharf.
“The Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Department of the Ministry of Labour has commenced its investigations into this accident and it will continue”, the release said.
The release added that Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton has once again expressed his ongoing concern about these workplace fatalities.
