A University of Guyana student is now counting losses that include his final year project after he was robbed in the early hours of Monday at his Cummings Lodge residence.
Josh Xavier, 25, was relieved of two Lenovo laptops, cash, jewellery and other personal items.
During an interview with Stabroek News, Xavier stated that he retired to bed sometime around 1.15 am on Monday after working on a final year project.
However, sometime after 3am he was awakened by loud noise and upon making checks he found that several louvre panes were missing from the window close to his living room, while his belongings were gone.
The student said it was his first experience of a robbery at his home and as a result he subsequently headed to the Turkeyen Police Station to make a report.
However, the disappointed student explained that upon his arrival at the Station, his calls went unanswered and he later realized that the officer present at the station was asleep.
Xavier, who eventually managed to alert the police officer, said the rank was reluctant to assist him and had instructed him to return later on Monday to make his report.
Without any other options, Xavier returned to the police station around 7.30 am and successfully made his report.
He expressed his disappointment about the way in which things were dealt with.
The man further shared that a series of robberies were reported in the area as well as break and enters.
The student expressed his frustration about the loss of his final year project that was stored on one of his computers.
