National left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie continued his fine form in the Caribbean Fest 40-overs-a-side tournament Sunday with a sensational century and four-wicket haul to lead Galaxy Cricket Club to a 180-run win over Bronx Cricket Club.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first at Beach 32, Far Rockaway, in the New York National Cricket League, Galaxy raced to 303 all out in 37.3 overs.
They then bundled out Bronx for 123 in 36.2 overs.
In an invited comment, Motie told Stabroek Sport he was happy to follow up his 57 the previous weekend and get to his maiden century in the competition.
He added that he knew he had to dig deep and backed his abilities.
Motie pointed out that his partnerships with Devindra Bishoo and Telson Johnson allowed him to play freely.
Guyana and former Jamaica Tallawahs power hitter, Jonathan Foo struck three sixes and six fours in a 47-ball 58 and, despite adding 88 for the second wicket with Keeran Krishna (24), Galaxy slipped to 122 for five by the half way mark.
The Guyana Amazon Warrior-bound right-handed batsman entered the crease and piloted a destructive second half of the innings. Motie raced to 108 from just 51 balls, hammering eight sixes and nine fours.
The West Indies `A’ product shared a 92-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Albion Cricket Club teammate and countryman, Bishoo (19) and an eighth wicket stand of 57 with Essequibo-born, Johnson (12) before being bowled by Fokhrul Miah. Other contributions came from number 11 batsman, Shiv Raghubar (27 not out) and Hemendra Ramdihal (17).
Ahsen Chowdhury was the pick of the Bronx bowlers, taking 4-69 while Dewan Syed Mulin and Mubin Dewan supported with two wickets each. In the chase, Bronx had the foundation set early with a 52-run opening partnership but it was Motie who returned to torment Bronx.
Motie had Dewan stumped for 10 and soon took a sharp return catch to send back Tanvir Ahmed for five before bowling Mulin, who top scored with 44 from 50 balls, laced with three sixes and four fours. The 26-year-old returned to dismiss Toyefur Tipu and end with figures of 4-22 from his eight overs. Karan Ganesh picked up two wickets for four runs while Raghubar followed up his unbeaten cameo with 2-10. Bishoo also took 1-21.
