An Ituni man is dead following an alleged dispute with a suspect who has since been arrested. The now dead man who was discovered lying motionless in his yard on Tuesday succumbed to his injuries at the Linden Hospital Complex yesterday morning.
The deceased has been identified as 56-year-old labourer, Fredrick De Souza, of BQ Range House, Kaburi Street, Ituni Village, Region Ten.
According to a police report, ranks responded to a call that a man was lying in front of his house. De Souza was found in an unconscious state bearing wounds to his head, abdomen and feet. He was taken to the Ituni Health Care Centre then to the Linden Hospital Complex where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday morning.
Enquiries led the police to a 39-year-old suspect about 10 pm on Tuesday. The suspect was observed to have a wound above his right eye. When questioned as to the origins of his injury, the man said that during an argument between the two, the victim told him not to enter his (the victim’s) yard which he did resulting in De Souza hitting him with a picket. The man, however, took away the picket from De Souza and beat him with it.
The suspect was escorted to the Ituni Health Care Centre where he received treatment for his injuries before being taken into custody where he remains.
The body of the deceased is currently at the Memorial Mortuary awaiting a post mortem.
