Four more COVID-19 fatalities were added yesterday to June’s toll and as a result increased the total number of deaths in the country to 473.
The Ministry of Health in a press release stated that three of the four persons passed on June 29 and were from Region Four. They were identified as a 71-year-old woman, a 54-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman. The fourth individual passed on June 30 and was identified as a 91-year-old woman from Region Six.
As a result, the total number of deaths recorded for the month of June, 2021 now stands at 75 making June the second deadliest month, behind May which recorded 99 fatalities.
Further, 87 new cases were reported which brings the total number of cases in the country to 20,142. These cases were recorded after some 1,019 more tests were done, increasing the total number of tests done to date to 189,878. According to the regional distribution of COVID-19 cases, new infections were recorded in five regions with regions Four, Three and Six recording the highest with, 40, 22 and 18 respectively.
There are now 1,560 active cases, 100 of whom are in institutional isolation while 1,460 are in home isolation. A total of 14 persons are in the COVID-19 ICU and 69 more persons have recovered from the virus which lifts the total number of recovered cases to 18,109.
Meanwhile, according to data gathered from the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 dashboards, a total of 3,103 cases were recorded for the month of June while 34,870 tests were conducted between June 1st and 30th. Some 13,707 COVID-19 cases were reported from January 1, 2021 to June 30, 2021.
However, while infections increased, a total of 32,409 persons received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine during the month of June.
