A 36-year-old porter died in an early morning accident on Saturday after he lost control of the minibus he was driving and crashed into the fence of Apex Academy along the Montrose, East Coast Demerara (ECD) Public Road.
Dead is David Michael Dindial, who was a resident of Chateau Margot, ECD.
Police yesterday confirmed the fatal accident, which occurred around 3am.
According to a police report, enquiries revealed that minibus GTT 9815 was proceeding west along the southern carriageway of the public road at a fast rate of speed when Dindial lost control and ended up into the fence on the southern side of the road.
As a result of the force of the impact, Dindial was launched out of the vehicle and he suffered multiple injuries about his body. He died on spot.
The accident was recorded by nearby security cameras.
Donna Dindial, the dead man’s sister, told Sunday Stabroek last night that she last saw her brother on Friday night, when he visited her home at Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara.
“He come. He had to drop a TV for we. He come about 9’ o clock and he left about minutes to 10 because he and a guy went gaffing that live right in the same yard,” Donna said.
Before David left, she said, he told her he was heading home.
However, Donna said she learnt that David met a friend or friends on his way home and they were drinking together. “I don’t know is who but one person said they see he and he never say where he going. He just get up and left,” the woman noted.
Donna believes that her brother was on his way home when he met his demise. “I don’t know if he sleep or he was speeding. Me ain’t sure because is only the video what we seeing on Facebook that could help we out here,” she said.
Donna explained that her husband received a call from David’s wife yesterday morning after she was contacted by the police. “I thought I was dreaming and then we jump up like, he (her husband) left stupid. He start crying…me never see me husband cry before,” Donna said.
A police investigation is ongoing into the accident.
