Five more COVID-19 deaths were yesterday reported along with 49 new cases of the virus.
This was revealed by the Ministry of Health in a press release which stated that the country’s COVID-19 death toll now stands at 497. The deaths occurred over two days.
A 79-year-old man from Region Four died on July 10 while on July 11, a 65-year-old man from Region Ten, a 67-year-old man from Region Three, an 86-year-old man from Region Four and a 91-year-old woman from Region Four passed. The release noted that these persons were admitted to facilities with COVID-19-like symptoms and died while receiving care at those institutions.
Meanwhile, the 49 new cases that were recorded increased the total number confirmed in the country to 21,002. These came after some 530 tests were done, thus increasing the total number done to date to 202,087.
New cases were reported in seven of the country’s ten administrative regions: Region One (4 new cases), Region Two (3 cases), Regions Three and Five (2 cases), Region Four (11 cases), Region Six (19 cases) and Region Ten (8 cases).
There are now 1,349 active cases, 76 of whom are in institutional isolation while some 1,318 are in home isolation. There are 11 persons in the COVID-19 ICU even as some 47 more persons have recovered. A total of 19,100 persons have recovered to date.
