Four children with COVID hospitalised

Four children are currently hospitalised with COVID-19 and two of them are in intensive care, according to Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony.

This was revealed during yesterday’s COVID-19 update, where the minister said that out of a total of 57 persons hospitalised with the virus, four are children. “Currently we have four children that [are] in the hospital and of those four two are currently in the ICU [Intensive Care Unit] and two are in the regular wards,” he said.   The minister recently disclosed that over 1,500 children here have been infected with COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic in March last year. At that time he mentioned that authorities have recently been seeing children suffering from more severe forms of the virus.

Anthony noted yesterday that some of the children who were hospitalised previously have been discharged.

“The two that are in the ICU, one has been there for some time now and just early this morning another child was admitted to the ICU,” he revealed. When asked if the children who have been hospitalised have comorbidities he stated that they have different presentations and illnesses, however doctors are working to ensure they get better.

At the Infectious Disease Hospital at Liliendaal, he noted, some 11 persons are currently in that Intensive Care Unit.
