A young mechanic who is facing two counts of armed robbery and two counts of discharging a loaded firearm was yesterday denied bail after two different addresses were provided to a court on his behalf.
Troy Rodrigues, 20, was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, who remanded him after reading four charges to him.
It is alleged that on May 13, at Campbell Street, Albouystown, while in the company of another and armed with a gun, he robbed Eion Small of a Honda XR motorcycle CK 7464, valued $445,000, a silver chain valued $35,000, and an LG cellphone valued $100,000. The second charge against him states that on the same date and at the same location, while in the company of another and while being armed with a gun, he robbed Manisha Tappin of $800 cash.
He was also charged with discharging a loaded firearm on June 11, at Independence Boulevard, La Penitence, in the direction of Manieta Shepherd, with the intent of maiming, disfiguring or causing actual bodily harm. It is also alleged that on the same date and at the same location, he discharged a firearm within 100 yards in a public place.
He entered not-guilty pleas for each of the charges. His attorney, Stanley Moore, made an application for bail but the magistrate rejected it.
According to Prosecutor Annalisa Brummell, the two complainants in the armed robbery charges have positively identified the man, while Shepherd also identified him to the police. According to Brummell, the men know each other. She said that Rodrigues was not wearing anything that could hide his identify from the virtual complainants.
Brummell also told the court that Rodrigues told the police that he lives at Lot 163 Curtis Street, Albouystown, which is a different address from where his attorney told the court— Lot 89 Laing Avenue, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown. The man was asked by the Magistrate for the address where he can be found if granted bail and he maintained that he lives at the Laing Avenue address. He was then remanded until a later date in July.
