A 10-year-old boy drowned on Sunday in the Hope koker channel, on the East Coast of Demerara.
The deceased, Anand Mangroo, who resided at Lot 380 Hope Low Lands, East Coast Demerara, was pulled out of the water hours after he went missing.
According to the police, Mangroo along with his 13-year-old brother and an eight-year old cousin went swimming between the hours of 4pm and 4.30pm.
While swimming at the seawall, the report stated, Mangroo was hit by a wave which sent him towards the Hope Koker. As a result he went under the water and did not come up again.
The police said, his brother shouted for help but no one went to his assistance.
Police began a search and at 8.20 pm the body was subsequently pulled out of the water at Hope Foreshore.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled.
