A three-wicket haul followed up by an unbeaten half century from Guyanese national youth player, Matthew Nandu powered Kaieteur International B to a two-wicket win over Hawks/Toronto Braves in the Scarborough Cricket League, Canada on Saturday.
Hawks won the toss and batted but were dismissed for 180 in 41.4 overs.
Kaieteur duly reached 182 for eight with 6.1 overs to spare in the 50-over contest.
Nandu’s off-spin sent Hawks into a downward spiral and he ended with figures of 3-25 while Jonathan Singh picked up 5-41 in 4.4 overs. Mahendra Nauth and Marcus Nandu both picked up a wicket a piece.
Mathew Kurikesh piloted Hawks’ innings with a 55-ball 52, laced with three sixes and four fours. Hawks’ captain, Vikram Gowda was also solid, hitting five boundaries on his way to 46 from 74 balls before being dismissed by Nandu.
Extras accounted for 18 while Nandhu Krishna (16) and Mahir Khan (14) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures.
Nandu, who is in the West Indies under-19 World Cup provisional squad, continues to show his temperament and passion to bat long periods with 85 not out. His 115-ball innings was highlighted by three sixes and five fours.
The left-hander was supported by Ravindra Nauth, who made 34 from 51 balls, hitting two sixes and one four before being run out by Kurikesh.
Nandu’s older brother, Marcus, was run out for four and Gowda (3-41) picked up the wickets of Surendra Seeraj (15), Chetram Nauth (03) and Lincoln Hotiram (00) before the younger Nandu and Mahendra Nauth (12) brought the waterfall-named side within striking distance of the target and eventually over the line with 21 extras aiding the victory.
