The police are yet to arrest the suspect who struck down pedal cyclist Rajendra Singh along the La Bonne Intention Railway Embankment, on the East Coast of Demerara two weeks ago.
During an interview with Stabroek News, Rajpattie Mahase, the widow of the deceased, called for the police to try harder with the case.
The woman, who is still trying to cope with the death of her husband, is hoping that justice will be served. She stated that the police are working slowly on the matter and she voiced her hope that they do a thorough investigation to bring the suspect to face the law.
Mahase said her family members have since started engaging persons in the hope of gathering information about the night in question but nothing has been received.
She is now faced with finding a job to care for herself and noted that it has been hard on her since she lost her husband.
Stabroek News had reported that Singh, also known as ‘Raymond,’ 39, of Block 8 Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, succumbed to his injuries one day after he was struck down.
He was said to be on his way home when the accident occurred.
The police said Singh was riding east along the northern side of the road when an unknown vehicle struck him.
As a result of the impact, Singh fell on the road and suffered injuries about his body. He was picked up in an unconscious state and placed in a pick-up truck and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was admitted as a patient in the Emergency Unit suffering from injuries to his head. He eventually succumbed.
Singh suffered internal bleeding, brain damage, a fractured hip, fractured ribs and a punctured liver. Mahase was informed that Singh was hit down by a minibus that did not stop to offer any assistance after hitting him.
