Six more Guyanese cricketers have been added to the West Indies Under-19 provisional squad, bringing the total amount of players to 10.
While the Guyana Cricket Board has not officially announced those selected, Stabroek Sport has been reliably informed that the deadline for submission has already passed.
Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club all-rounder, Jonathan Rampersaud, Demerara Cricket Club’s Shemar Yearwood, Achievers’ Colis Noble, Blairmont Blazers’ Marvan Prashad, Transport Sports Club’s Alvin Mohabir and Enmore Community Centre Cricket Club’s Chaitram Balgobin are reportedly the six additions to the squad.
Rampersaud and Mohabir are solid middle order batsmen who both bowl off-spin while Noble and Balgobin have built reputations of being big hitters.
Prashad is a tenacious top-order batsman who has often shown his willingness to frustrate bowlers out of the attack with his temperament and classy strokes.
Yearwood has also been imposing on bowlers with his ability to shift gear while his glove work behind the stumps has set the bar high for up-and-coming wicketkeepers.
The six will join fast bowler, Isai Thorne and batsmen, Mavindra Dindyal, Matthew Nandu and Rampertab Ramnauth as the players selected from Guyana.
The GCB had rolled out an inaugural under-19 50-over franchise tournament back in May when the board’s president, Bissoondyal Singh indicated the tournament would provide valuable feedback to the selectors and coaching staff.
The release from the launch stated that the GCB trusts that the tournament will help to give the under-19 players an opportunity to be selected in the Cricket West Indies under-19 preparatory activities for the 2022 World Cup.
However, the GCB took a decision to postpone the competition after the first two rounds, citing the inclement weather as a factor.
