The Ministry of Health (MoH) yesterday confirmed two more COVID-19 fatalities, which have increased the country’s death toll from the virus to 509.
In a statement, the Ministry said that deceased are a 16-year-old boy from Region Nine and a 74-year-old woman from Region Ten, who both died while receiving care at a state facility.
The death of the teen, leukemia patient Roll David, of Nappi, in Region Nine, had been confirmed by Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony on Friday.
For the month up to Friday, 33 persons who were infected with COVID-19 died, with 17 being recorded over the past week, when the deaths crossed the 500-mark.
Meanwhile, the MoH’s COVID-19 dashboard yesterday showed that 120 new cases have been confirmed from 1,199 tests. As a result, the total number of cases in the country confirmed up to Friday stood at 21,471.
Of the new cases recorded, 54 were from Region Nine, 34 from Region Four, 7 each from Region Five and Region Ten, 6 from Region Six, 5 from Region Three, 3 from Region Two and 2 each from Region One and Region Seven.
The dashboard also showed that there were 12 persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, 95 in institutional isolation, 1,050 in home isolation and 5 persons in institutional quarantine.
Based on the dashboard from last Sunday to yesterday, 547 cases have been confirmed from 8,437 tests done.
