President of the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA), Orin Ferrier, has confirmed that the organisation will stage an official executive meeting next week to discuss several pertinent issues inclusive of club registration, elections, and future tournament participation.
These remarks were made during a one-on-one with Stabroek Sport yesterday. According to Ferrier, the association is focussed on addressing numerous matters which have arisen due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
“We have an executive meeting lined up for next week where we will be discussing club registration to make sure all the clubs are properly registered, “ he said.
“Based on that, we will have a complete list and be able to have our AGM. We want everything sorted out before the GFF starts their preparation for any tournament they have provided that they receive approval from the national Covid-19 task force,” he added.
“It all depends on the Task Force as to whether we can go ahead but we want to be ready. We want to be prepared for any tournament that might come up and we want to be prepared to give our best representatives for any national tournament in the pipeline. We are trying to get our house in order to be ready when the GFF is ready, that is our focus right now,” he informed this publication.
He noted that emphasis will be placed on ensuring that the clubs can stage their respective electoral congresses, which will open the pathway for the association to conduct its constitutionally mandated election.
“The clubs have to hold their elections so that they can vote in our elections so they have to do theirs first. Our election was due last year but we couldn’t stage it because of the COVID-19 situation. We will discuss setting a date for the Annual General Meeting and we will also be looking at candidates who can take a responsible position on football in the region. Volunteers are always welcomed,” he explained.
Presently, the WDFA consists of 1st Vice President, Trevor Williams; 2nd Vice-President, Mark Bradford; General Secretary, Adrian Giddings; Treasurer, Christine Schmidt; Assistant Secretary/Treasurer, Bostwick; as well as Committee Members Travis Bess, Adio Wright, Colin Henry, and Ramsamooj Israel.
Meanwhile, Ferrier offered condolences to the family of former Den Amstel assistant coach Daniel Davis who passed away recently, “I want to send out condolences on behalf of the association to Daniel Davis, who was the PRO and assistant coach of Den Amstel FC.”
