The National Community Policing Group (CPG) held its elections on July 17th at the Leonora Secondary School on the West Coast of Demerara and Kishore Gobin was re-elected as Chairman.
Deputy Commander of Region #6, Superintendent of Police Himnauth Sawh was the Returning Officer.
A release on the Guyana Police Force’s Facebook page said that those elected to the new National CPG Executive are:
(1) Kishore Gobin – Chairman
(2) Narendra Loknauth – Vice-Chairman
(3) Sunita Dhanraj – Secretary
(4) Shazat Bacchus – Treasurer
(5) Devica Hassan – Assistant Secretary/Treasurer
(6) Krishna Sewlall – Public Relations Officer
Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn who was in attendance expressed gratitude to the members, stakeholders and business owners for their continuous support. He said that he
reconstituted the national CPG countrywide in November last year due to the decline in groups and membership over the past few years. Benn said that the promoting of safe communities and neighbourhoods can only come through the enabling and rebuilding of community trust and confidence through a system of volunteerism, using citizens to bolster and aiding the lawful, professional efforts of the Guyana Police Force.
Benn, the release said, further noted that President Irfaan Ali boosted the allocation of funds to the CPGs from 50 million to 75 million dollars.
“The CPGs must know what’s going on in the communities. We are in a pandemic, you must be able to encourage persons to practice the precautionary measure to fight against the deadly virus and to be fully vaccinated. With all being said I wish you all success,” Benn stated.
He charged the newly elected Executive Committee to embrace good community relations in Guyana that is in keeping with the rules and regulations of the GPF and to be more intelligence-driven to enable safer communities and a safer country.
