A twenty-three-year-old man was on Saturday night shot dead and his friend wounded after the duo walked into what appears to have been an ambush at Linden when they were fired upon from a car.
The deceased has been identified as Delron McKenzie of Lot 57 Caneview Avenue, Roxanne Burnham Gardens while the injured man was named as Calvin Daly.
According to a police report, Daly told police that about 5 pm on Saturday he and McKenzie left Georgetown for Linden as McKenzie had asked him to accompany him on a visit to a female friend. The duo arrived at Linden around 9 pm via public transportation and went to Church’s Chicken to purchase a meal.
It was stated by the police that McKenzie was given directions by his female friend via his cellphone to join a boat at the last stelling at the MacKenzie shore. When they had crossed over to the Wismar shore, it was said that McKenzie contacted the woman via his phone and was told to walk up the road through Sunflower Street.
The men were reported to have taken the street further down to a bridge and a short distance into a cross street, McKenzie received another call where he was allegedly told by the female to turn around since she was sending a silver-coloured wagon to pick them up.
About 9:50pm they then walked out of the street where the wagon had turned around and as McKenzie approached the car to open the back door, a male opened the door and began shooting at him. Another male who was in the front passenger seat came out of the car and opened fire also.
Daly it was said ran for cover leaving McKenzie behind. Daly said that the car had three occupants at the time. The men jumped back into the car and continued to drive in the southern direction towards Silver City Street. Daly when questioned about the woman who contacted McKenzie over the phone said that he doesn’t know anything about her.
Daly, who suffered two gunshot wounds on the left and right lower arms with abrasions to both arms was escorted to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was admitted as a patient.
McKenzie’s body was escorted to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body is currently at the GJetsco Funeral Home awaiting an autopsy.
Investigations are ongoing.
