The Ministry of Health yesterday said that as of July 17, 2021, three more persons who tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have died. This takes the total number of deaths from the pandemic to 512.
The latest fatalities are a male, 65, of Demerara-Mahaica on July 15; a female, 41, of West Demerara-Essequibo Islands on July 16 and a male, 82, of East Berbice-Corentyne on July 17.
The patients were admitted with COVID-19-like symptoms and died while receiving care at the ministry’s medical institutions. Samples were taken at the time of admission which subsequently returned positive tests.
Meanwhile, the ministry yesterday reported that there were 91 new cases of the virus. Thirteen persons are in the ICU.
