A man was shot in his hip at a Sparendaam Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara location on Sunday by a suspect whom he said threatened to kill him while they were both imprisoned.
The injured man is Rawle Franklyn, called ‘Rawle Dog,’ 33, of Sparendaam Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, who was shot by a suspect known as ‘Sad Killer’ and ‘Dutchy.’
According to the police, enquiries revealed that the victim and the suspect are known to each other. The victim claims that while he was a remanded prisoner at the Lusignan Prison, he met the suspect, who from time to time threatened to kill him. On the day in question, at about 9.45 pm, Franklyn was riding his pedal cycle to Sparendaam Squatting Area to visit a gamble shop, where he was confronted by the suspect. The suspect, who was said to be on the access bridge, reportedly told him “Look how long I waiting on you” and then drew a firearm and shot the victim before running in an unknown direction.
The victim subsequently called a friend, who took him to a hospital. He was admitted as a patient in a stable condition.
Checks were made for the suspect but he was not located. An investigation is in progress, the police said.
