Guyanese cricketers enjoyed a fair amount of success over the weekend in the United States-based, Caribbean Fest 40-over tournament.
At the pinnacle of the action, Galaxy Cricket Club defeated Everest/ACS by 47 runs compliments of the South American boys.
Playing at Lido Beach, Everest won the toss and inserted Galaxy, who made 272 all out from their full 40-over quota. Everest were restricted to 225 in 37.2 overs in their reply.
Karan Ganesh top scored with a 57-ball 78, but it was contributions by Guyanese national cricketers Gudakesh Motie, Devendra Bishoo and Jonathan Foo that allowed Galaxy to flourish.
Motie made 41 from 33 balls, blasting two sixes and three fours while Bishoo hammered an unbeaten 37-run cameo from just 15 balls. The out-of-favour West Indies leg spinner struck three sixes and four fours. Meanwhile, Foo was the foundation of the batting, adding 85 for the third wicket with Ganesh.
Foo made 33 from 30 balls, decorated with three sixes and one four.
Guyanese bowlers, Raun Johnson, Kheshram Seyhodan and Rajiv Ivan each picked up one wicket.
In reply, Ivan returned to top score with a ball-a-run 46, featuring two fours and one six. Skipper, Amarnauth Persaud contributed 45 from 51 balls while Seyhodan made 25 before being run out.
Motie returned with his left-arm spin to pick up 3-57 while Foo bagged 2-20. Bishoo and Johnson picked up one wicket each.
In another fixture, local boy Chris Patandin hammered a century to give Majestic CC a 100-run win over Richmond Hill Liberty.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Majestic posted 270 all out in 37.4 overs while Richmond Hill were contained to 170 all out in 26.1 overs.
Patandin clubbed an astonishing 15 sixes and three fours as he raced to 126 from 83 balls. He added 120 for the opening partnership with skipper, Derick Narine, who made 40 from 39 balls. Robin Rooplall and Avi Dhanpaul had cameos of 33 and 28 runs respectively.
Altaaf Habibulla was the pick of the bowlers with 3-23 while Leon Mohabir, Keron Sewnarine and Trevor Henry took two wickets each.
Raj Singh stifled the chase with 3-21 and was supported by Narine (2-15), Dhanpaul (2-27) and Rooplall (2-35).
Openers, Dino Choo-Wee-Nam (47) and Naresh Rambharose (40) provided a solid start but apart from Habibulla (35) and Tegana McKenzie (33), no other batsman got going.
Also in the day’s action, Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ) romped to a 64-run win over Melbourne NY alliance at Baisley Pond.
MMZ piled up 219 before being bowled out in 36.4 overs while Alliance only managed 155 all out in 29.2 overs
For MMZ, Andy Mohammed top scored with 63 while Looknauth Chinkoo and Vedesh Singh chipped in with 36 and 33 respectively.
Former West Indies leg spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo, rolled back the years to take 3-27 while Fuse Azees and Ryan Girdhary took two wickets apiece.
Nagamootoo returned to top score with 37 while Al Small made 31 but Melbourne lost wickets consistently.
Matthew Lutchean picked up 4-23 while Terrence Madramootoo and Kelvin Shewprashad took two wickets each.
Meanwhile, West Coast Warriors coasted to a 68-run victory over Bronx CC after posting 176 and limiting Bronx to 108 all out.
Leading with the bat for Warriors was former Essequibo youth captain, Ameer Singh with a fine 58, laced with six fours and two sixes. Extras had the next best score of 26.
Vickash Dhaniram returned to take 3-13 while Demerara youth leg-spinner, Ushardeva Balgobin and Sewsaran Sookdeo had two wickets each.
