The South Turkeyen Sports Committee announced yesterday that it will be staging two Champion of Champions three-a-side small-goal football competitions on August 1 and 2 respectively.
According to a release from the committee, the August 1 tournament will be staged at the National Park starting at 8:00am with several teams from various villages from Georgetown and the East Coast of Demerara down to compete.
Meadowbrook, Lodge, Charlestown, Sophia, D’Urban Street, Tiger Bay, Plaisance, Vryheid’s Lust and Albouystown are among the teams in contention. Meanwhile, the following day, August 2, the event will be staged at the Victoria Community Centre ground.
The teams programmed to participate are Haslington, Plaisance, Beterverwagting, Golden Grove, Enmore, Ann’s Grove, Paradise, Buxton, and Melanie.
An entrance fee of $1,000 per player is required to enter either of the tournaments. Winners will receive trophies and medals as well cash prizes. The organiser of the competition is Johnny ‘Overseas’ Barnwell.
