Former Police Corporal Derwin Eastman has been committed to stand trial for the murder of businessman Godfrey Scipio, while his co-accused, former police constable Jemeson Williams, has been freed of the charge.
Magistrate Fabayo Azore, who presided over the preliminary inquiry into the charge against the two men, handed down the decisions on Friday in a Georgetown court.
The two men were charged with killing Scipio on October 12, 2017, during a robbery at Stanley Place, Kitty.
Scipio was a well-known businessman in the Stabroek Market area. He owned a wholesale and retail business near the Berbice bus park.
