As the country’s COVID-19 inoculation programme continues, the Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, has reported that authorities currently only have both first and second doses for the Sinopharm and AstraZeneca vaccines.
This was disclosed during Dr Anthony’s daily COVID-19 update where he called for those who have received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine to return for their second doses.
As the minister was asked about the country’s vaccination programme, he reiterated that three vaccines are currently being used here, AstraZeneca, Sinopharm and Sputnik V. He noted that while these are here, he expects that government will be receiving some additional vaccines including the one-dose, Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
“We have already paid to the African Union to source some Johnson and Johnson vaccines. So those would be coming in, in August,” he informed. He also mentioned that as it stands, only first and second dose jabs of the AstraZeneca and Sinopharm vaccines are being administered. “So these are the two that we have as both first and second dose. With Sputnik V we have first-dose Sputnik V that is available and we are working to make sure that the second dose would be made available again.”
Anthony repeated his call for persons who have received their first dose AstraZeneca shots some time back to come forward and get their second dose as there are some 10,000 persons who are now due for their second dose of the vaccine.
