Victim apprehends armed robber at La Grange

A man who was being robbed at gunpoint managed to apprehend his robber by chasing after him, the police yesterday said.

According to police, at about 17:55 hrs yesterday at La Grange Old Road, West Bank Demerara, a 27-year-old man of Bella Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, was able to apprehend his robber after being held at gun point.

The report stated that the man went to the location stated to purchase a phone from an individual he had met on Facebook – a 19-year-old from Prashad Nagar, Georgetown. Upon arrival, the virtual complainant asked around and was directed to the man who was playing pools in a Chinese restaurant.

The man then left the pools table, went over to the complainant, then whipped out a gun and held it at the man while demanding that he hand over all his money. The robber proceeded to push his hand into the complainant’s pants pocket and removed $10,000. At this point the complainant held onto the robber and a scuffle ensued resulting in the robber discharging a round which did not hit the complainant.

The robber then managed to escape to the public road but the complainant chased after him and eventually caught up with him. The complainant managed to relieve him of the gun and held on to him while other persons who had gathered, assisted with apprehending him. The police were then summoned and a .32 revolver along with two live rounds of .32 ammunition were retrieved. The articles are lodged with the police while the suspect is also in custody. Investigations are still ongoing.
