Dear Editor,
GUYSUCO is being subsidised by billions of dollars every year. This subsidy needs to end but can only do so once GUYSUCO is profitable or once alternative employment is found for the sugar workers. When we want to end subsidies we need to be consistent and call for the end to all subsidies including the Linden electricity subsidy that is costing Guyanese taxpayers. Also, we need to call for an end to subsidies in the form of free electricity to Guyana’s chief welfare recipient. If Bharrat Jagdeo can give up his free electricity then it will help in asking others to give up their subsidies. Are we serious in asking for subsidies to be ended or are we just playing partisan politics?
Sincerely,
Sean Ori
