Guyana-based Nigerian designer Dr Deborah Kehinde launched her African print bag collection on Thursday. The new collection which has been added to her Rhoda Doxa line called ‘Omolola’ adds that chic and vibrant look for women looking to pair the African print bags with their outfits.
Named for her mother, Rhoda Omolola Kehinde, it means ‘child of wealth’. Her mother, who is also a designer, assisted in the launch of the collection.
Initially the bags were to be launched in time for Mother’s Day but this was not possible owing to the delay in shipment of the materials.
Though she designed a Christmas collection for last December, this is the first of her collections to be launched since 2019 when she debuted her makeup line, Rhoda Doxa Beauty. Deborah shared that the collection is also her favourite. In addition to ‘Omolola’ she has also launched a clothing collection which caters for men and couples also. The collection was launched online on the website, Facebook and Instagram accounts.
Deborah, who noted that her business suffered a lot, said, “If the pandemic has taught me anything, it is that almost anything can be done online. I’m so excited about the new collection!”
For Emancipation Day, August 1, the designer will roll out an African food package. For people who are interested in making these dishes, Deborah is currently working on a recipe book featuring African cuisine. The book is expected to be available from September 22.
“I’m grateful to God, my parents, my brothers and my friends who have supported me,” the designer said.
Those who have already placed their orders will enjoy a 15 percent discount until tomorrow and a 10 to 40 percent discount on African prints, and Rhoda Doxa’s skincare products and makeup.
Deborah moved to Guyana more than eight years ago to study medicine. She has completed her studies and since settled here.
Her business’s website is www.rhodadoxa.com; it is on Instagram @rhodadoxafashion, Facebook at Rhoda Doxa or Rhoda Doxa Fashion Caribbean, or she can be reached at 652-1833.
