(Barbados Nation) – “If we cannot get consensus . . . the Government will govern.” With these words, Prime Minister Mia Mottley entered the hot-button debate on vaccination in the workplace on a day that some workers complained they were feeling pressured to get inoculated.
Mottley was responding to a question during a press conference to update the country on the COVID-19 situation and the recovery from Hurricane Elsa. She hinted that for those who refused the vaccination, there might be a cost for regular PCR tests.
She said the vaccine matter is expected to be discussed next week when the Social Partnership – a tripartite grouping of government, the private sector and labour – meets. While employers appear to be pushing for a fully vaccinated workforce, some workers believe it is their choice and have found support among some attorneys.
