Recognising the dangers pedestrians face as they make their way to the Kitty seawall, the government has decided to construct a footpath from David Street towards the seawall along the area separating JB Singh and Vlissengen roads.
Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill yesterday said that the facility is being constructed under his ministry by Vieira 66 Logistics.
Edghill noted that the project was designed and focused on road safety for pedestrians.
“It has a lot to do with road safety and improvement of the carriageway, people don’t have to be walking at the edge of the road, it is a heavily trafficked area so it is a safety measure we are putting in here.
The minister pointed out that when the footpath is completed it will be equipped with lights and seats and it aims to serve as a recreational area.
Construction of the facility started earlier this month and the contractor is currently engaged in preparatory and foundation works.
