The Giftland Group today said that all its unvaccinated staff must submit a negative COVID-19 PCR test at the beginning of every work week before commencing duties.
In a release, the company noted that this requirement is part of an effort “to protect its employees and patrons and create a safe work and shopping environment.” Its decision was based on what it says is a worldwide-known fact that “99.5% of all persons in hospitals and dying from the dreaded Covid viruses are unvaccinated.”
According to the release, “It is critical that all people in the workforce get vaccinated against COVID-19. Because of highly contagious variants, a significant number of unvaccinated people, increased COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are once again rising throughout Guyana.”
And in an apparent attempt to buttress its point of view, the Group cited a recent Private Sector Commission (PSC) statement which it said had also observed the rise in cases and deaths and had stated that it is “Ready and willing to support all and any action taken by our government that will serve to protect our population from the surge of the pandemic.”
The release contended that those persons unwilling to be inoculated, “must be prepared to face the consequences.”
As the Giftland Group sees it, the current COVID-19 vaccine mandates have proven effective and expressed the hope that all other employers across the country will implement effective policies to encourage vaccination. “The health and safety of workers, families, communities and the nation depends on it”, it said.
