Two men facing separate multiple armed robbery charges were yesterday remanded by a City Magistrate.
Selwyn Haynes, 21, of Lot 173 Pineapple Street, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown, and 26-year-old Godfrey Lynch of Agricola, East Bank Demerara, were brought before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where they were remanded over armed robbery charges.
Haynes was not required to plead to the charge which states that on June 27, at Louisa Row, Georgetown, while being in the company of another and while armed with a gun, he robbed a man of a cellphone, a handbag and documents, and cash, amounting to $88,500. It is also alleged that on the same day he robbed another man of a bicycle, a cellphone and cash, amounting to $69,000.
According to the police, on the day in question at about 6 am, the men were walking in the vicinity of the location mentioned when Haynes allegedly approached them and robbed them.
He has been remanded until August 4.
Meanwhile, Lynch is accused of robbing a man of a ten-pennyweight gold chain and cellphone valued $165,000. The offence was committed on July 25 at Houston Public Road. He was not required to plead to the charge. According to the police prosecutor, Lynch was positively identified by the virtual complainant. However, Lynch told the court that he was at home at the time the police are alleging the crime occurred.
Lynch was also remanded and his matter will be heard again on August 18.
