A man and a woman who are facing multiple charges including assaulting peace officers and threatening behaviour were yesterday granted bail.
Akeem Daniels, 24, of North Sophia, Greater Georgetown, and Janel Cox appeared via the Brickdam Police Station Hub court before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan who presides at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Daniels was read three charges which allege that on July 22 at Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, he used indecent language toward a police officer, he assaulted the police officer, and resisted arrest by the police officer. He denied the charges and told the court that he was speaking to the driver of the taxi he was travelling in and that he never used indecent language toward the officer.
However, police prosecutor Annalisa Brummell told the court that according to the facts, the police had approached the man to pick up some garbage he had thrown out of the car, but instead of complying, he started using indecent language toward the officer. He was placed on $2,000 bail for the assault charge and self-bail for the other charges. The matter was adjourned until August 10.
Cox, meanwhile, was also placed on $2,000 bail for allegedly behaving disorderly, and self-bail for using abusive language toward a peace officer. The charge against her states that on July 16 at Garnett Street, Newtown, Kitty, she used abusive language toward police officer and behaved disorderly in a public place. She denied both charges. Cox was told to return to the court on September 14.
