Three more women succumb to COVID-19

Guyana has recorded three more COVID-19 fatalities all of whom are women. There are also 81 new cases of the virus.

This was disclosed by the Ministry of Health in a press release which stated that the country’s total COVID-19 deaths now stand at 533. The latest fatalities were identified as a 67-year-old from Region Eight who died on July 27, while a 64-year-old and a 68-year-old both from Region Four died on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the 81 new cases increased the total number of cases recorded to date to 22,315. These came after 1,303 new tests were done, thus increasing the total number of tests done to date to 221,861.

According to the regional distribution of cases, the majority of new cases were reported in regions Four, Nine, and Three, with 41, 20, and 13 new cases respectively.

There are currently 921 active cases, 64 of whom are in institutional isolation while 857 are in home isolation. Some 11 persons are now patients at the COVID-19 ICU and 77 more persons have recovered from the virus raising the total number of recovered cases to 20,850.
