A one-year-old baby boy was on Tuesday discovered by his mother floating in a fish pond at Sand Pit, Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast.
The dead child, Jeremiah Norton, according to his mother, 32-year-old Elizabeth Henry, was left in the company of his two siblings who were playing in the house while she was outside washing clothes.
Henry related that about 9:30 on Tuesday morning she was washing clothes when she decided to check on the children, at which point she realised that the baby was missing. Her search for the child ended some 300 feet from her house where the baby was found floating in the pond.
He was rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The child’s body was examined for marks of violence but none was found. His body was transported to the Charity Public Hospital and is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
