The Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) is getting ready to host the second leg of exhibition matches come Friday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.
According to a release from the body, the games will begin from 18.30 hours with the opening contest putting on show some the best local female talent the sport has to offer. This female battle will be the first ladies match hosted by the GVF for the year.
The release stated, “The Guyana Volleyball Federation hopes to increase female participation in the sport and also to develop the level of playing of females in Guyana.” The second game will see a rematch between the National Senior and the National under-23 male teams which will begin at 19.30 hours.
Recapping on the first exhibition match hosted on July, 2, the National Under-23s came out victorious with top performances coming from Kristoff Shepherd and Tyrone Farley.
The first set of the game saw the U-23 team defeating the seniors 25-21. The second set saw the seniors falling again, losing 25-21.
The seniors avoided being swept in straight sets, annihilating the U-23 team in the third set 25-16.
The fourth set was the most competitive of the night which saw the U-23 unit closing out the game and cementing their victory over the seniors by a score of 30-28.
According to the release, the National senior side has been eager to bounce back and stake their claim on Friday.
The GVF, the release stated, will continue to encourage all athletes to stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic and insists that all protocols will be in effect.
