Some 40-odd minutes of heavy downpour forced the third T20I between West Indies and Pakistan to be abandoned at the National Stadium, Providence yesterday.
The roughly 1500 fans were left disappointed after the rain stopped Andre Fletcher’s assault as it was building up.
West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first with Chris Gayle promoted to the top of the order in Evin Lewis’ absence.
Lewis was replaced by Andre Russell while Pakistan also made one change with Haris Rauf replacing Shaheen Afridi.
Fletcher was off with a blitz, smashing off-spinner, Mohammad Hafeez with a golf-like shot over the mid-wicket boundary to take nine runs from the first over.
Fletcher did not let up and transferred his aggression to seamer, Mohammad Wasim, who was hoisted just short of the Presidential Suite beyond the long on boundary. Fletcher was left on 14 not out while Gayle had one not out.
Just five minutes into the match and only seven balls into the innings, rainfall stopped play.
A slight delay from the groundsmen was enough to see the pitch change colour while pools of water developed throughout the field.
Providence lived up to its reputation as one of the fastest drying outfields in the region but the rain was too good and the match was called off shortly after 14.00 hours.
