After four rounds of the FIDE Cadet and Youth Online Rapid World Cup tournament, Nicholas Zhang leads the Guyana players with two points from a possible four.
Playing in the U10 category Zhang won yesterday’s fourth round encounter to move to two points.
Guyana is being represented by Zhang, Jacob Mc Donald, Julian Mohabir and Aqualani Swaminadha.
In the first round the four Guyanese lost all of their matches with Mc Donald, who is unrated, losing to Giorgi Kukhianidze rated 1258 who had the white pieces and Mohabir, playing black, losing to Dmitriy Dolmatov rated 1247.
In the remaining games, Swaminadha playing white, lost to Christian Tolosa, rated 1162, and Zhang, also with the white pieces losing to Josue Gabriel Vasquez Lopez rated 1046.
Mc Donald rebounded to win his second round encounter defeating Nick Calleja Urry rated 1106 playing with the black pieces.
Mohabir, playing black, lost his second round match to Shun Him Leung rated 1034 while Swaminadha and Zhang lost to Adrian Cortes and Julian Aguero Gonzalez respectively.
In the third round Mc Donald lost to Ryan Rashid Mugdho, Mohabir defeated Arsh Mathur, Swaminadha got the better of Gweshe Jordan while Zhang got a bye to record his first point of the competition.
In yesterday’s fourth round encounters, Mc Donald lost to Dolata, Mohair lost to Gaga Gvasalia, Swaminadha lost to Madhvendra Pratap Sharma and Zhang defeated Raheem Gayle.
The 10-round tournament continues with the fifth round tomorrow.
