A convicted robber was yesterday remanded after he denied two armed robbery charges.
Orin Favourite called ‘Solo’, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan remanded him to prison after reading two armed robbery charges to him.
It is alleged that on January 10, at Hadfield Street, Georgetown, while being in the company of another and while being armed with a gun, he robbed Mishal Juman of an iPhone 11 Pro valued $200,000. It is also alleged that he robbed Chandroutie Juman of a Samsung Galaxy valued $498,000, a handbag valued $25,000, and cash, C$150 equivalent to $26,250 and US$30 equivalent to $6,000.
According to the police prosecutor, the women were about to enter a motorcar which was parked on the southern side of the road when they were confronted by the man who was armed with a gun. He was also accompanied by his unarmed accomplice. Favourite allegedly went to Chandroutie while his accomplice approached Mishal and together the men relieved the two women of the items mentioned in the charge. The police said that in the process of relieving them of their items, Favourite discharged a round.
A report of the matter was made to the police and an investigation was launched. Favourite was then arrested and told of the allegation to which he said he wants to see the persons accusing him of robbery. The prosecutor said that the man was positively identified by Chandroutie at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, at Eve Leary. He was remanded until August 18.
