The cause of death of a Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, man whose car ended up in a trench along the Warren Public Road, East Coast Berbice, was drowning.
The Guyana Police Force yesterday informed in a release that Joshua Butts, 21, had drowned. It stated that a post-mortem examination (PME) was conducted at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital Mortuary by Dr V Bridgmohan, a Government Pathologist, in the presence of the police, before his body was handed over to the relatives for burial.
This newspaper had reported that on Sunday, Butts was driving motor vehicle, PTT 7891, when he reportedly lost control and plunged into a nearby trench located on the southern side of the road. He was taken out of the car by public-spirited residents and was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he received treatment for some time.
However, he eventually succumbed to injuries sustained. According to a police source, the accident was not initially reported to lawmen, but after rumours began to circulate, investigators launched a probe. The source noted that based on information gathered there were at least three persons in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
