Two women from Region Five are the country’s latest COVID-19 fatalities and 84 new cases of the virus have been reported.
These new figures were disclosed by a Ministry of Health release which stated that the country’s COVID-19 deaths have increased to 553. The latest fatalities were identified as two women, a 56-year-old and a 54-year- old, both from Region Five. They both died on August 4 while receiving care at a medical facility.
The 84 new cases reported brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 22,789. These came after some 1,236 more tests were done, increasing the total number of tests done to date to 231,121.
According to the regional distribution of cases, new infections were reported in seven of the ten regions, with the majority recorded in regions Four and Three with 40 and 25 new cases respectively. There are now 750 active cases, 89 of which are in institutional isolation while 661 are in home isolation.
Thirteen persons are now patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit while 21 more persons have recovered from the virus. The total number of recovered cases in the country now stand at 21,473.
