Adrian Giddings, Secretary of the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA), has announced that Friday September 3 is the date that has been confirmed for the organisation’s constitutionally mandated Electoral Congress.
During an exclusive interview with Stabroek News yesterday, Giddings informed, “We are supposed to hold our election on September 3rd. From the election we will know which direction we will take on competitive play but we have not gotten word from the GFF as to when they will resume but want to make sure that our teams are ready whenever the GFF is granted approval by the national Covid-19 taskforce. We had an executive meeting on July 29th. That was last week [where] we discussed the elections among other things.”
Presently, the other members of the WDFA executive are President, Orin Ferrier; 1st Vice President, Trevor Williams; 2nd Vice-President, Mark Bradford; General Secretary, Adrian Giddings; Treasurer, Christine Schmidt; Assistant Secretary/Treasurer, Bostwick; as well as Committee Members Travis Bess, Adio Wright, Colin Henry, Dellon Bagot, and Ramsamooj Israel.
He added that a general council meeting is scheduled to be conducted today and that information on the respective elections of the clubs under the umbrella of the association will be disseminated.
Giddings explained, “Yes all the clubs will be informed of the election and we will be asking them to get themselves in order. We will be having a general council meeting today. That is a Zoom meeting which is for safety reasons.”
“Every single club under the WDFA has to hold their elections before the association. Everyone needs to be in order to have a voice and vote at the association’s election. If they are not in order in time for the elections, they can come and sit in but they will not be eligible to vote,” he further pointed out.
The clubs expected to conduct elections are: Wales FC, Golden Warriors, Red Scorpions, Pouderoyen, Beavers, Jetty Gunners, Crane Rovers, Stewartville, Eagles FC, Hurry-ATE FC, Uitvlugt, and Western Pumas. Den Amstel is an Elite League member and as such, is directly affiliated to the federation.
Giddings further revealed that the registration fee for the respective clubs have been waived by the association, “As is relates to club registration, we decided to waive the fee of $5,000 but we are still collecting the $100 per player fee. My position was to waive everything but the executive decided to waive the club registration fee and just collect the player fee.”
