A three-year-old boy was on Thursday struck down by a motorcyclist while crossing the Hole Public Road at Matthews Ridge, North West District.
The police, in a statement issued yesterday, said Cleveland Poliah, 20, of Flatts Matthew’s Ridge North West District, was riding motorcycle #CK 947 along Hole Public Road on Thursday afternoon when the accident occurred, around 4pm.
At the time, three-year-old Gulanio Cunningham was crossing the road.
According to the rider, he was proceeding in a western direction, driving at about 40 to 50km per hour while ascending a hill when the boy was spotted crossing from south to north.
The rider told the police that he applied brakes to avoid a collision but despite his efforts he collided with the child.
As a result of the collision, the boy injuries about his head and body. The police said the child was picked up in a conscious state and taken to the Pakera District Hospital, where he was admitted.
Although the police said the investigation is still ongoing, they noted that a notice of intended prosecution was served on the driver.
