A youth was on Friday sentenced to 30 months behind bars after he pleaded guilty to using a cigarette lighter to burn a two-year-old girl.
19-year-old Anil Angnoo was sentenced by Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh when he appeared at the Albion Magistrate’s Court after he pleaded guilty to the charge that on August 3, at Rose Hall, Corentyne, Berbice, he inflicted grievous bodily harm on the girl.
According to a statement issued by the Guyana Police Force, on the day in question the child’s mother made a report to the police outpost that her boyfriend burnt her daughter. The police said that Angnoo went to visit the woman at her residence. During the visit, he became annoyed at the child because she was urinating and defecating too many times than he deemed necessary.
The police said that he then took a cigarette lighter and burnt the child on her back and vagina, causing her to received injuries. The child was taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital by police after the report was filed by the child’s mother.
