Police are searching for two men who robbed a man of over $900,000 in valuables, including jewellery, during a robbery at Two Miles Good Fortuin, West Bank Demerara.
The Guyana Police Force said the suspects, who are known, carried out the armed robbery on Sunday night at 11.45 pm.
The victim was a 26-year-old man, who was robbed of two gold chains, valued $351,000; a silver chain with pendant valued $88,000; a gold band, valued $127,000; two gold rings, valued $198,000; and a wrist watch, valued $150,000.
According to the police, their enquiries revealed that the victim was sitting in front of his friend’s home on a bench waiting for a taxi to arrive when he was approached by the suspects, two men who are known to him.
It is claimed that they asked him why he was making trouble with someone’s wife and an argument ensued.
As a result, one of the suspects reportedly pulled out a metal object and dealt the victim several blows about his body and relieved him of the articles mentioned, after which they made good their escape on foot. The victim raised an alarm, resulting in his friend coming to his rescue.
