A Corentyne teenager has succumbed to injuries he suffered days ago when the motorcycle on which he was the passenger crashed into a cow along the Crabwood Creek Public Road.
According to the police, the deceased, Mahendra Persaud, 16, was on motorcycle CJ 1342, which was being ridden by Akthor Nahor, 18, of Lot 172 Jumani Street, Upper Corentyne.
The accident occurred last Saturday evening.
According to the information released yesterday by the Guyana Police Force, Nahor was allegedly speeding at the time. He is claiming that a cow ran across the road into his path.
“The front portion of his motorcycle collided with the right side front shoulder of the cow. As a result both the driver and pillion rider fell onto the road surface where they received injuries about their bodies,” the police said in a statement.
The two teenagers were rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital. They were both conscious. They were initially treated and discharged.
However, two days later, Persaud’s relatives rushed him back to the hospital, which transferred him to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital as he was experiencing some amount of pain still. He was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he succumbed around 7 am on Monday.
He reportedly suffered injuries to his head and other parts of his body.
His body remains at the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination, while police said they have served “notice of intended prosecution.”
