The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) on Wednesday received five new fire tenders, which are expected to boost its firefighting operations.
Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn handed over the keys to the five fire tenders to Fire Chief (Ag) Kalamadeen Edoo on Wednesday afternoon during a simple handing over ceremony in front the Ministry’s Brickdam office.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, in a post on its Facebook page, stated that the new tenders will be dispatched to the new fire stations to be commissioned at Lethem, Mahdia, Mabaruma, and Eccles.
According to the post, Benn said the five fire tenders represent an improvement in the resources of the GFS and will support the agency’s current expansion.
The minister also highlighted the importance of smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and proper electrical systems in homes and businesses, as well as supervising children at home to prevent fires.
The five tenders are the newest additional to the GFS fleet. The cost of the tenders is unknown.
In March this year, the GFS received four tenders at a cost of more than $200 million.
