A man was recently granted bail after denying a charge of robbery with aggravation.
Jamaul Brown, 24, was on August 6, 2021, arraigned before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
It was alleged that on the day before, August 5, at Regent Street, while being in the company of others, he robbed Ye Cheun Ite of an iPhone, valued $330,000, eight boxes of clothes, a quantity of perfumes, and cash, all amounting to $800,000 in total. His attorney, Lesley Benjamin, told the court that her client was never found with the items.
However, the police prosecutor said that the victim was driving through Georgetown in the vicinity of Regent Street, when he was approached by the two persons, who forcefully opened the door of his car and assaulted him before relieving him of his items. The prosecutor did not object to bail being granted but he asked that conditions be applied if granted.
The magistrate then released Brown on $300,000 bail, with the condition that he reports to the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters, at Eve Leary, every Monday until the conclusion of the matter before the court. The matter has been adjourned until September 3.
