Azure Experiences, in a collaborative effort with local artistes and musicians, presents a day of music, food, wine and nature two Sundays from now at the Pandama Retreat and Winery, Linden/Soesdyke Highway.
Founders of the tour company, Annie and Brian Gomes, shared with The Scene that the idea behind the event is to really create not just a trip but an entire experience and to be one with nature. Attendees will enjoy live music and entertainment from Jackie Jaxx, Gavin Mendonca and Chucky, Otisha Drummers, and DJ Akelo. Patrons will also enjoy relaxation to sound therapy which will be guided by Annie.
As shared by Annie, the name of the tour company was derived from the monarch butterflies that are azure in colour. These butterflies, she said, are often seen along pathways in the woods and it is the fascination of seeing them that led to the name.
She noted that while nature creates the desired serenity, it also provides an open atmosphere where people can social distance. COVID guidelines, she said, will be in effect. Guests are expected to wear their face masks, wash their hands upon entering Pandama, as well as undergo a temperature check. No one will have to worry about being caught in an enclosed space, she said, with such wide open spaces available.
Annie further pointed out that Pandama, in keeping with the protocol of the Guyana Tourism Authority, is only allowed to have up to about 60 people at one time. For this reason, the upcoming experience caters for a limited clientele and as such people are asked to book early.
In the past, Annie has guided their guests in yoga, but this time around, the therapy focuses more on breathing techniques while meditating and listening to the calming sounds around.
Brian shared that the establishment of the tour company was something he and his wife had considered prior to COVID-19, as a getaway for city folks or anyone wanting relaxation in nature away from the bustle of life. Their plans were delayed but they finally went ahead and started the business this year. According to Brian, the struggles of the pandemic make events such as this one more needed.
This the fourth such event coordinated by Azure. The first two were ‘Yoga, Breakfast and Nature Walk’ while the third was ‘Yoga, Breakfast and Blackwater’. This is the first that does not cater for children. However, Azure Experiences intends to have family events once per month.
The cost of the experience is $15,000 per person ($17,000 with transportation) and includes lunch, a glass of Pandama wine and finger foods and snacks. Patrons can also walk with their own coolers.
Payment can be made through MMG via 610-2862 or for more details and payment info, the couple can be reached at 610-2862 or 622-6030.
