Suriname’s President Chandrikapersad Santokhi is due to arrive in Guyana on Tuesday for a four-day official visit, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced.
The visit is on the invitation of President Irfaan Ali, who visited Suriname last November, when the two presidents launched the Guyana-Suriname Strategic Dialogue and Cooperation Platform (SDCP).
According to a statement issued by the ministry on Saturday, Ali and Santokhi will review the progress made so far under that mechanism in the areas of Foreign Policy Coordination and Political Dialogue, Environment, Health, Infrastructure and Transportation, Agriculture, Immigration, Customs, Security and Private Sector Enhancement.
Additionally, they will also discuss priority issues on the CARICOM agenda as well as the economic and social repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic on the two countries.
“This sustained engagement between Presidents Ali and Santokhi is testimony to their shared vision and commitment to converging the collective energies of the two countries for the benefit of the citizens of both countries and the region as a whole,” the ministry noted.
The statement said Santokhi will be accompanied by First Lady Mellisa K. Santokhi-Seenacherry and a delegation comprising Suriname’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation Albert R. Ramdin, Minister of Natural Resources David Abiamofo, Minister of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Parmanand Sewdien, Minister of Public Works Riad Nurmohamed, Minister of Transport, Communication and Tourism Albert E. Jubithana, representatives of the State Oil Company of Suriname and members of the private sector.
